#10: gradient nails
Mmm, birds on a wire.
Knowing that the dark blue I would be applying is a jelly, I applied one coat of LA Girl Disco Brites “funkadelic”. Two coats of LA Colors color craze #569 were brushed on top. The nails were sponged with #569, Orly “Snowcone” and Sally Girl 812706 “Coconut” in succession to create a gradient from dark to light. Birds and telephone wires were handpainted in Sally Hansen Hard as Nails “Black Heart” and, once dry, two coats of Out the Door was applied to smooth and shine.
getting better at the freehand painting!
Dreamers— doesn’t this remind you of Birds on a Wire?
I love glitter-tipped gradients. It’s like you dipped your fingers into glitter.
The aforementioned gradient to goth up DVD for me:
- Sally Hansen HD - DVD
- Wet n Wild - Saved by the Blue
- Wet n Wild - Buffy the Violet Slayer
- Wet n Wild - Black Creme
My first gradient attempt, outside of swatches! Realized halfway through that I was painting in much too little light and couldn’t completely see what I was doing, but I didn’t bother to relocate, so it got a bit thick near the end. I’m kind of digging it, though— the Black Creme reminds me of dripping hot tar. My thumb’s blending is what I’m shooting for on all of them next time. Cleanup was a beast…
